Records that absolutely rocked the party can be easily forgotten come the next morning. The most fascinating of audio journeys can be lost completely on the dancefloor in a one-time affair. Still relevant over 15 years later, their debut album as Freaks, The Beat Diaries (2000) has secured Justin Harris and Luke Solomon as an industry standard when it comes to delivering a record that stands the test of time.
The Beat Diaries achieved monumental respect and support from producers and DJ’s of the time paved the way for the duo's seminal track “Turning Orange” co-written with Joey Negro. It was a collection of top-notch house cuts of nearly every sort and style. From the squared beat of "Discorobot" to the Latin jazz-up of "Dance and Disorder" and the bump of "Mysteries.com," the production quality was ever evident, with every track finding the perfect mix of organic funk and quirky electronic soul.
Fast forward to 2016 and Justin & Luke decided it was time to re-release the album as The Beat Diaries (The Director's Cuts) – to feature not only all of the original tracks but all of the remixes they had from the likes of Rob Mello, Diesel, DJ Q, Mateo & Matos, LoSoul, Home & Garden and Mark Farina plus 3 exclusive tracks – Namely an unreleased version of Turning Orange, a lost edit of Instrument and the hidden gem, Mr Roachclip - all remastered for digital release !
